HEADCASE, SANDHOLM & SENSE: the journeys

In HEADCASE, Alderick is so rude it is hard not to play him as a caricature and this seemingly 'un-normal' behaviour didn't happen because of the translation. The first time I read SANDHOLM I became emotional because it brought back all those memories of my time in an asylum seekers' centre in Belgium. In SENSE, I played an African young man who falls in love with a young German girl. The story of my life.

A very raw performance

This has been a most extraordinary experience. In a period of two weeks I worked on eight characters for four different plays. The characters in THIS CHILD (I played four of them) are unnamed and "universal" though not archetypal. Instead, they're very real, with their problems and backstory in so much it became a challenge to come up with distinctive and believable characters in such a short time.

Spawned from a verbatim project on a housing estate in France, Joel Pommerat's play lifts the lid off parent-child relationships and gives voice to feelings that often go unspoken. It takes the form of 10 unrelated scenes that chart the relationship between parents and children from different perspectives.
