Last weekend (10 - 11 May 2008) I attended the Oxford Forum for International Development (read: African Development) by Oxford University. Though the theme was international development, particular emphasis was given to Africa, Africa being, still, the poorest region in the world. And, to my surprise, I found out a lot of attention was being given to Rwanda, not necessarily in ways one would expect. |

This is an extract of the thank you email from Envision (who organised the event at Amnesty International, which The Darfuri/Asylum Monologues were part of) to Actors For Refugees: I basically wanted to say a huge HUGE thank you, which I hope you can pass on to actors Abby and Ery. I performed my speech JINZ during a sleep out event in Oxford. The event was organised by Asylum Welcome, STAR (Student Action for Refugees) and Refugee Resource as part of Amnesty International's 'Still Human, Still Here' campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the plight of failed asylum seekers who are being forced to live in poverty on the streets in an attempt to drive them out of the country. |
