What a coincidence, what a blessing! BBC's Panorama last Sunday (On A Knife Edge) was about the gang culture in London, and it followed two black teenagers of African origin.
They came here at a very young age and now they're struggling to keep away from gangs in their neighbourhood. One even witnessed a beating that led to murder. Omar is blatantly 'like' those two teenagers. One of them, I was surprised by how deep his voice was (for a fifteen-year-old). It reassured me because it meant I didn't have to use my upper range (to try to sound young). The film is definitely going to be of good use to me for the accent (their vocal rythm,...) and physicality. |
